Florida Forever 2010 Calendar
Published by Legacy Institute for Nature and Culture
Enjoy the beauty of natural Florida every day.
This wall calendar features the work of some of Florida's most beloved nature photographers.
For more than two decades, Florida Forever has been preserving natural Florida by purchasing individual parcels of land to protect them from development. Yet nearly three million acres of sensitive land and water have been identified that are still in desperate need of protection. In these troubled economic times, continuing support from the state is in jeopardy.
For the second year in a row, Florida's leading conservation photographers have committed their time and efforts to support Florida Forever and the work of the Florida Forever Coalition. Each month in this beautiful calendar features a photograph of a high-value landscape from the Department of Environmental Protection's priority acquisition list.
The lenses of John Moran, Clyde Butcher, Chad Anderson, Kevin Barry, Will Dickey, David Moynahan, Jeff Ripple, James Shadle, Mac Stone, James Valentine, Carlton Ward, Jr. and Eric Zamora reveal stunning vistas, endangered shorelines, and primeval forests that could all-too-easily be replaced by houses, shopping malls, restaurants, and asphalt parking lots. Unless swift action is taken, these areas could be lost forever.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each calendar will enable educational outreach supporting Florida Forever as well as conservation photography fellowships and scholarships by the Legacy Institute for Nature & Culture (LINC). No one who cares about the natural beauty of the state should miss the opportunity to enjoy these views every day.
The mission of the Legacy Institute for Nature & Culture is to raise awareness for natural environmental and cultural legacies, educate about important connections between human societies and natural ecosystems, and promote conservation of natural heritage.
Cost of the calendar is $15, plus $3.50 shipping and $1.01 sales tax for Florida orders, payable by Visa/Mastercard by E-mail or phone at 352.373.9718, or by check to John Moran Photography, 1327 SE 69th Way, Gainesville, FL 32641.

TO PLACE AN ORDER: Please contact me via email JohnMoranPhoto@gmail.com or telephone (352.373.9718) for further information or to place an order payable by Visa/Mastercard or personal check. I prefer communication by email, which gives us both a written record of the conversation. Please note that I am a staff of one, and my travel schedule may preclude an immediate response to your query. Orders may take from one day to several weeks to fill.
I print my photos on premium Hahnemuhle European fine art paper using Epson Ultrachrome archival pigment inks. My framing presentation features a "floating mat" look. Unless specified otherwise, I choose matboard colors that complement the colors of the selected photograph. On photos that are matted to 24x32" or larger, I use premium suede mats. I carefully hand-tear each photo to leave an exposed white-bordered deckled edge suspended within the surrounding matboard window. It's a labor-intensive process that yields a striking artistic look. I use Nielsen brand frames from their Florentine Silver "Brushed Steel" collection (Style 83 and 93, Finish 150). For the extra large 43x59" frames, I use Nielsen Damascan Steel, style 45E-861.
My photos make memorable awards and gifts with the inclusion of a personalized, engraved metal plate that I attach to the matboard before assembling the frame. Please ask for details.
My Florida photo collection is also available at Harold's Frames and Gallery www.haroldsframes.com in downtown Gainesville next to the Hippodrome Theatre. Harold offers a wide range of custom framing options, including both wood and metal frames. Harold's uses a traditional overlay mat style, a classic look that differs from my deckled-edge "floating mat" look. Harold's is the place to see my entire collection of framed Florida photography, and is also the place to have your University of Florida diploma framed with my campus or alligator photos. Call Harold (352.375.0260 or toll-free at 1.877.857.9403) for directions and store hours.

Books
Journal of Light: The Visual Diary of a Florida Nature Photographer
hardcover, 128 pages. 77 color photographs, 36 essays.
published by University Press of Florida
For a preview of the book, click here.
About the book, one critic writes,"...a reminder of Florida's enormous capacity for natural majesty; it's a remarkable souvenir of the mystique of a rare place... Moran's essays resonate with an honesty and compassion that fully inform the art behind the photographic technique. His words express a sensibility that is as authentic as it is admirable... [A] subjective ode of wonder and affection and art."
This remarkable collection of images and essays caps Moran's 20-year odyssey to discover the soul of one of the most photographed states in the country. The book is a mid-career retrospective featuring Moran's well-known photographs of the alligators, beaches, birds, blackwater rivers, freshwater springs, palms, live oaks, turtles, flowers and night-time landscapes that make Florida the amazing place we call home.
Signed and personally inscribed copies of Journal of Light can be ordered directly from John Moran. The cost of the book is $34.95. With tax and shipping, the total is $42.26.
Books shipped out of state are tax exempt. The order total is $39.90.
Finding Yourself: A Spiritual Journey Through a Florida Garden
with text by Bill Maxwell
softcover, 48 pages. 39 color photographs.
published by Historic Bok Sanctuary
In seven visits over three years, I held the keys to the kingdom while crawling and climbing all over one of America's great botanical treasures. Historic Bok Sanctuary in Central Florida is a place of deep spiritual refuge, crowned by a magnificent 200-foot tall Gothic Revival carillon tower. The photos are artfully interweaved with a beautiful poem by Bill Maxwell, columnist for the St. Petersburg Times.
Personally signed and inscribed copies of Finding Yourself can be ordered directly from John Moran. The cost of the book is $15.00. With tax and shipping, the total is $19.51.
Books shipped out of state are tax exempt. The order total is $18.50. |
